Katsina State Police Command Prepared for August 1 Protest, Urges Public Cooperation

Katsina, July 29, 2024 — The Katsina State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order during the nationwide mass protest scheduled for August 1, 2024. Recognizing the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, the command is determined to ensure public safety and security while respecting the rights of citizens.

In a strategic meeting with heads of security agencies, CP Musa emphasized the importance of reinforcing security measures to prevent any disruption. The police commend those who have chosen to withdraw from the protest due to concerns about potential violence and commend the efforts of those discouraging participation at this critical time.

The command has outlined comprehensive measures, including increased patrols, surveillance, and the deployment of specialized units trained in crowd control. Collaboration with the military and other security agencies aims to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the protest.

Citizens are urged to cooperate with security forces and remain patriotic. Organizers of the protest are requested to ensure their event remains peaceful and to provide the police with detailed information about their plans. This includes proposed routes, assembly points, expected duration, contact details of leaders, and measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements.

The Katsina Police Command remains ready to work with protest organizers and participants to safeguard the rights and safety of all individuals. Any unlawful activity will be addressed decisively to maintain the relative peace of the state.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the Police Public Relations Officer, reiterated the command’s readiness to ensure a secure and orderly environment during the protest.
